Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2008)

I could not have been happier to see that “Birdemic: Shock and Terror” was on Netflix streaming earlier today. Sure I had seen the film once before but I needed a refresher and now I have a link to give out for streaming so that everyone can enjoy it. Maybe you have heard of Birdemic but never got around to watching this modern b movie masterpiece. The film does have a nasty reputation at being just godawful, and for the most part, much of that is justified if you are a mainstream movie watcher. However, if you happen to like painful scenes and dialog, and I know that many of you do because of the popularity of shows like “The Office”, then this is about as painful as it gets. The lines are delivered in an almost English is a second language…so feed the actors the lines one by one so that the timing and delivery is off, type fashion. There are many uncomfortable camera shots that just seem to have an extra few seconds too many in them as well. Both of these two elements combined add up to something awkward. You will be able to pick up on both of the above mentioned within the first scene and it is par for the entire course of the film.

So let’s get to the fun. “Birdemic: Shock and Terror” is about a couple in love and a whole lot of killer birds that try to ruin their lives. The birds, which you can see in the trailer so you will know what to expect, are incredibly awesome bad. I do not have any more words just watch the trailer and if this is the type of film that entertains you as much as it does me; then I am glad you are visiting this website. Birdemic 2 should be out in a few months and I can’t wait to watch it.

1990: The Bronx Warriors (1982)

So maybe you have seen “The Warriors” since it has some relevance in today’s pop culture. If you liked “The Warriors” then you should also check out “1990: The Bronx Warriors”. The Bronx Warriors covers many of the same elements of what the future gangs of new york would look like from an early 1980′s perspective. We have a tap dancing gang, a roller hockey gang, the high life type gang, the low life type gang and some bikers…and that is what the future would hold for the Bronx in the year 1990. Again if you like cheesy 80′s gang type movies then you will be in luck if you have not seen this one because it was so cheesy that it even got a sequel “Escape from the Bronx.” Now many readers may be wondering how this compares to other more popular films of the same genre. The fact is, this film is nothing like “Escape from New York” because there is no sci-fi cyber punk element to it. The Bronx Warriors has a fairly good use of colors but it is not as colorful as Mad Max. The only film that I can compare it to is “The Warriors” without the Greek mythology back story. The movie stands alone on it’s own so check it out if you are into 80′s style gang films.

Empire of the Ants (1977)

This is great. Very scary island ants get into some radioactive waste and become the size of trucks. Then they go on a murderous rampage. The best parts of this film are all the parts where the ants and humans are on screen at the same time. The use of puppets and miniature models for special effects is truly something that has to be seen.

If you can find it on DVD you may be lucky enough to get the double feature disc with another classic trash movie “Tentacles”
